Special events can be significant fundraising and community engagement opportunities.
As a participant in the Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Insurance Program, many types of special events are covered under the master policy, but there are exclusions.
As your Affiliate is brainstorming fundraising ideas, check your insurance manual first. This is the best way to see if your event would be covered. To find a copy of the manual, log in to your account on the Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Insurance Program website or consult your account manager.
If your event idea is excluded, don’t worry. You can apply for special event coverage.
Special Event Exclusions
There are certain types of events that excluded from the master policy. Common exclusions vary from seemingly docile activities to more exciting events.
A sample of excluded events, include:
- Petting zoos
- Hot air balloon rides
- Donkey basketball
- Mechanical amusement park rides
- Bicycle events
- Carnivals
- Rappelling up or down buildings
The most common events needing a separate policy are those where alcohol is served or sold and a liquor license is required.
These events produce distinct liability exposures that are not covered in the Habitat for Humanity Affiliate Insurance Program policy (or in most standard general liability policies). However, an excluded event can be covered with a few extra steps from you.
