restores-Top-5-for-2014Our safety initiatives for 2014 are all about improvement! We want to help affiliates improve and refine on our existing safeguards for ReStores by providing key points within each of our designated focus areas. In each issue of our Safety eNews this year, we’ll highlight one of the “Top 5″ for both job sites and ReStores, and give useful ways to implement safety in that area. Here’s an outline of our Top 5 for ReStores.

1) Proper Handling of Customer Donations and Purchases

  • Teach proper and safe techniques for moving customer donations and purchases to prevent damage to vehicles, goods and injury to the customer and staff

2) Prevent Slips and Trips

  • Prevent trips and slips by removing hazards in aisles, quickly handling liquid spills and addressing uneven walking surfaces

3) Prevent Sprains and Strains from Improper Lifting

  • Teach proper lifting techniques, including team lifting

4) Eliminate Risk of Falling Objects

  • Use of proper storage methods; heavy objects on the bottom, lighter objects on top

5) Prevent Falls from Heights

  • Ensure proper ladder usage and maintenance
  • Equip loading docks with proper railings and signage
