The effects of a robbery can be lessened (in other words, reducing the amount of money stolen) by limiting the amount of money kept in your cash registers. Your ReStore operation should have a Drop Safe – a safe with a slot to insert money without having to open the safe entirely – where you can drop cash, rather than letting it accumulate in the registers throughout the day.

We recommend that you make regularly scheduled cash drops into your Drop Safe every few hours and/or once your registers have reached a certain dollar threshold. For example, if your register has $400 cash in it after a busy shopping period, remove the cash in excess of what you regularly keep in your registers, such as $100, and place the excess cash into the Drop Safe.  Making regular cash drops will lessen the impact of a robbery at your store.

Be sure to not leave keys hanging in the safe.
